Leliefontein Visited

On 10th May, 2013 I finally visited Leliefontein for the first time.  Possibly one of the very few of Barnabas Shaw's descendants who have done so.

It was sad to see the environs of the church to be in such a dilapidated condition. Sadly also the curator could not be located.

I spent about an hour or so walking thorough the grounds of the church and took some photographs.

Leliefontein Mission is situated some 37 Km south of Kamieskroon in the Northern Cape. the mission station is situated at the highest point in the area.  The FM mast can be seen from the main road to Springbok from Cape Town.

The surrounding countryside comprises of granite.  What an amazing coincidence that Branabas lived in the beautiful granite area as did his descendants who settled in the beautiful granite countryside of Rhodesia.

It was amazing to touch the Sun Dial that was presented to Barnabas in the 1820's and to walk where Barnabas once walked.
